Martha Vail, PhD - Consulting, Training & Facilitation
Martha Vail has more than two decades' experience in the nonprofit sector.  She's served in just about every possible capacity: volunteer, staff, funder, executive director, board member and advisor.  She has worked with century-old organizations, and with startups.  Her clients include human service agencies, cultural institutions, public agencies, social justice organizations, and coalitions of all types.  Some clients have nine-figure budgets and large staffs; some operate on a shoetring and volunteer dedication.

Martha's wide range of perspectives enable her to take a holistic approach in partnering with clients to achieve their goals.  That means every project-from a simple fundraising training to a complex succession plan-has a value added component, a little something extra that enriches your work in unexpected ways.

Martha's professional positions have included Interim Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Colorado Nonprofit Association; Director of Organizational and Leadership Development at JVA Consulting, LLC; Interim Executive Director of State of Change; Training Officer for the Gill Foundation; Development Director of the Colorado Chautauqua Association; and as Program Officer for The National Faculty.

Her community involvement currently includes participation on  the capital campaign committee for High Plains Raceway and the fundraising committee of the 32 Avenue Jubilee Center.  Martha has served on the boards of the the Porsche Club of America, Rocky Mountain Region, Colorado Chautauqua Foundation, Civil Rights Now and Congregation Chevra Thilim.

Dr. Vail received her B.A. in History with Highest Honors from Smith College, and her Ph.D. in American History at Yale University.  History is still her favorite “past time”; she is the author of the successful 2006 National Historic Landmark nomination for the Colorado Chautauqua and of Exploring the Pacific (Facts on File, 2005).

On sunny weekend days, Martha can be found either on a racetrack or on the slopes. Both driving and skiing fulfill her need for speed and test her tolerance for helmet hair.
